THE EXHIBITION

When I arrived at the unit x exhibition at
around 7:30pm it was way busier than I expected it to be. I had a good look
around the different areas of work but I was only really there to see the
graphic design/ illustration work. I really liked a lot of the pieces I saw
there. It was also really nice seeing them all up on the wall for the public to
see. The work was also getting a great reception from everyone who attended.
PITCH RESPONSE
During the pitch you could tell the group
were on edge and a bit nervous. However with a few stumbles of words I think
the pitch flowed quite well. By the time we were a few slides in everyone
seemed confident enough to speak. I feel our ideas were put across really well.
The panel liked the way our visuals were coming along, however there wasn’t much
graphic design influence to the work. I really agreed with this but the group
didn’t really openly agree to the ideas, which I put forward.
The tutors noticed that the group vibed
well with each other. I think this could be what saves the work and makes the final
outcome really good. However we need to stop being so laid back as there is
often at least one person missing in class or in group meet ups.
PITCH
Here are the slides from our final pitch to
a panel of 3 tutors. Our group presented the ideas for our hoardings through a
PowerPoint presentation, which explained everything we needed to.
The first slide introduced the group.
The second slide showed all of the
properties that Circle Square represent, and what we were going to represent in
our work.
The third slide showed our word pairings,
Nightlife//Wildlife. With this slide we will talk about the meaning behind this
pairing and how we are going to portray this.
Fourth slide is talking about our
influences and showing how our work relates.
Slides five through eight show general
illustrations we have and explaining what these characters represent. I think
this will work really well and give the panel a good idea of what we are trying
to portray with these ideas and illustrations.
Our final slide is just a summary of all
the other slides and allowing time for questions to be asked.
Unfortunately some of the imagery we wanted
to use in the pitch wasn’t sending, so we emailed them to the tutors and showed
them separate to the slides. These images were the compositions Katie had put
together shown in previous slides.
DEVELOPMENT
With the illustrations given by my other
group members, Katie scanned them in and created some compositions. I like how
they have a level of depth to them. However some of the scans are very faded
and I think if they were digitised then they would be a lot better and bolder.
Therefor working better together and working more harmoniously.
PITCH PREP
For the second pitch the group had to piece
together an A3 mock of our final idea. We also had to figure out how we were
going to present this to the panel of tutors. The group actually had a pretty
good idea of what we were going to create, and we soon got to mark making and
putting together a collage of the work we were going to present.
We realised that we needed to create a
composition with a sort of depth to it in terms of foreground, mid ground and
background. We also need to make it clear that the characters are the main
focus to the piece. To do this we took Gabe’s characters and scanned them in,
then enlarged them and started cutting them out, then placing them about in a
nice composition. Our idea became clear to us as we were going and we started
adding in items like lampposts and bust stops etc.
This meeting was really successful in my eyes;
we got a lot of work done in a short period of time. I am feeling confident
about the pitch now as we are all on the same level.

DEVELOPING VISUAL IDEAS
Over Easter, Gabe from our group created some nice illustrations. I quite like the textures and patterns in these drawings, they work really well as black and white pieces, however im not too sure how well colour will work with these and maybe black and white will work best.
BRIEF
This is a live project and there is a real opportunity for your work to get noticed and realised in a public space. Perhaps more importantly there is a bigger opportunity to test your ideas and attitudes about the city as a place in which to live, play and work. The project is broken down into two stages. The first stage is mainly concerned with collaboration and working within a small group. The second stage gives you an opportunity to work on your own and explore the themes your group has identifed.
